I like Pete's more than Starbucks. The coffee is actually coffee here. Not that they do not carry a few foo-foo-la-la drinks, but even these carry a real coffee flavor to them. All in all I recommend this place to anybody looking for a good cup of Joe, or in this case, Pete's.

I give 4 Stars based on service. I come here almost every Friday from 7:45 AM to 9:00 AM to use the internet and study a little. One time I ordered a soy mocha for here and I felt like they forgot the soy. Soy milk is very important if you're lactose intolerant. ;) I could tell while I was drinking that something was definitely wrong. Could it be my drink or could it be something else? As I was sitting near the bar on another day, I over heard one of the baristas say that she forgot to use soy on another person's order! So every since then, I'm always skeptical if they made my drink correctly. Soy drinkers beware! Watch your barista to ensure you won't have any accidents later.

I come here before this grueling four hour evening class on archaeology to get something -anything! - with some taste. I first tried their mocha freddo, which had these little bits in it. Maybe at home on my computer I'll bother to find out what they were, but if you see this tangent then I probably didn't bother. Next time I tried a soy latte. I have no idea what to expect from a soy latte, but this was a little bitter and tasted slightly burnt. Not my cup of tea. Yes. I just did that. Sorry. Anyway! I give this place 2 stars because the lady working there in the afternoons is super kind in a genuine way. Not just a good cashier/barista (although that is the case too), but a pleasant person to get a cup of coffee (or mocha freddo) from.

  • Srihari Y.

I just gave the lady at the bar a $20 note - right out of the bank. She gave me change for a $5 and kept arguing that I gave her a $5...I just lost $15. Need I say more? Just to add, there was no one else waiting for their order, I was literally the first in line, so no room for confusion..

Good Peet's with courteous employees and drinks are well prepared. It is small and can get crowded very easily. Sunday mornings tend to draw larger groups that makes it unpleasantly crowded.

  • Eston M.

The coffee doesn't knock me out, and the pastries don't stand out, either. However, the folks behind the counter always seem happy to be there, smile, and are in general a nice way to start out the morning.

Friendly and fast for me. I'm getting addicted to their Fredo Mocha (spelling)? Good coffee hangout with community feel. Convenient location for me. A good change of pace from Palo Alto Cafe. Can get a ticket to do one hour of internet access at a time. Have yet to try it out, but I'm there for the caffiene!

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!! GO THERE IF YOU WANT TO BE TREATED BADLY AND TALKED ABOUT IN MEAN WAYS!!!! When I entered the store that morning I didn't know my day would be completely ruined. One of the coffee makers at the time was George Dabney (I got his name from the very useful assistant manager, Kenyatta J.). I asked for an extra hot vanilla latte to which he answered: "what do you mean?!" I answered: "190 degrees" so he took the cup with a dirty look and gave it to the man. I wished him a happy new year and he didn't answer. When I got the coffee it wasn't hot so I asked for it to be fixed and he took the cup back and I got it back with no sweetener. I didn't say anything and just left. The next day I come again (bad decision) and I ask for the same order. George was one of the coffee makers that day too and greeted me with a bad facial expression and took the cup from the cashier. He took the cup and whispered into the other coffee maker's (Paul Lam) ear and I heard the name Dana (my name). Paul took the cup and made my drink. When I received the drink, I noticed it was a green drink! I said thank you, and then contacted the assistant manager right away. She very helpfully gave me this info. The drink went straight into the garbage. Kenyatta made me a new coffee. never going there again.

Walked in during a slow time today (3-3:30) and waited while 4 staff chatted about how the pancreas works. A very LOUD guy named George was completely rude and talking so loud it was really unprofessional. So my ice coffee wasn't a stumper - can'r ruin that but the store is in really bad shape. The tables were dirty, floor disgusting, trash bins overflowing and the entire team appeared to be completely unaware. Won't be back to this place but doesn't bode well for the Peet's branding. Starbucks is always sparkling! And friendly.

Coffee is good (1 star), service is just too inconsistent. Fair sometimes and woeful others. I was the only person in the store. They took my order and then proceeded to spend the next 3 minutes talking and stocking shelves. Eventually I called three times to get their attention and asked for a refund and they asked, "you don't want it?" I was shocked, they still had not even started making it. I took my money and left - with no attempt on their part to rectify the situation at all. I did buy coffee beans and coffee here - no more.

I stopped here this morning to try out the 'Snow Leopard' tea. Boy was I surprised at what a strange feeling I felt when I entered this small Peet's. Kind of cold, dead feeling and lacking personality. I don't know could be the lack of color on the wall or something like that. Anyway, I got my tea and was on my way as I had no desire to enjoy my beverage in this flavorless under brewed Peet's. Small store with: several tables inside with scratched up benches blank tan interior walls outside tables & chair seating unfriendly employees lack luster appeal

  • Michael W.

Great service and coffee. Only downside is that if you're looking to grab a seat and do some work, it does get incredibly packed throughout the day. It's probably best to come after lunch around 3 while everyone's back at work. Other than that, no complaints!

    (4)
  • Victor S.

Along with Piazza's and Rick's Ice Cream, probably the only reason to visit the strip mall here. My childhood home is only a few blocks away and whenever I return to my family's house, I always stop by here. I agree that the service here can be a bit inconsistent, but whatever. The outdoor area is decent, and on weekends, it gets packed with people, I think, who go about with their cycling activities (i think?!?). Everyone knows Peet's. Pretty good mainstream coffee. Really wish there was a Peet's in NYC...as opposed to a Starbucks on every other street corner. On another note, I still do miss Cafe Sophia that used to be in the spot that Peet's now occupies. Back in the day -- the place was around for maybe 8 or 9 years...but the smell of roasting coffee would envelop the whole neighborhood. I do miss that smell. It's moved down to Midtown PA, and I still havent tried the new iteration.

  • Carl E.

Slow, slow, slow! Coffee is just OK by Peets standards and you have to wait 10 minutes or more even if there are only 3 people waiting for coffee. There are plenty of people working so that's not it. I finally gave up and went down Middlefield a couple blocks to Starbucks where they know how to get things done.

    (1)
  • Melissa W.

Coffee is always amazing but the service here sucks! Don't accidently order something the way you would at Starbucks or they will be rude and snappy at you-- happened on more then one occassion with more then one employee. Employees should not make their customers feels stupid!! If they weren't located so closely to my work I would not give them by business.

  • Natalie Y.

I don't usually go to Peet's since it is not close to where I live/work. Nevertheless, I drove by it and desperately needed coffee. The inside looks like any other coffee place. Barista was super cheerful and friendly, which is a super big plus. I ordered a vanilla latte that tasted like a vanilla latte. I like how they sell tins of tea leaves. I am an English Breakfast Tea girl, might go back to buy some.

  • Kim N.

One of those Peet's in a shopping center that time forgot. It maybe the only real happening retail here. Met a couple of friends for coffee before lunch, just to shoot the shit. The guy at the counter was super excited about explaining to my friend about different teas. Got my standard iced chai to wake myself up. Not too crazy about the clientele as they seem to be mostly older grumpy types.

    (3)
  • N B.

Peet's is all about the coffee... which is solid. Peet's is to coffee what Cuba is to Cigars. They go through the full process the right way, from roast, to beans, to prep, to the cup... to put is simply, this is the only coffee I wouldn't mind drinking "black". With that, Peet's is a chain and widely seen everywhere, hopefully they can keep delivering quality despite their expansion... unlike some competitors..... Small outdoor seating at this location is a little tight..

    (4)
  • Hagit K.

Nice neighborhood vibe, great service. Unfortunately a terrible cappuccino, with overtones of burnt coffee and an aftertaste of not-quite-fresh milk. I'm sorry to write this because I usually love Pete's and brew their coffee at home. Maybe it was a bad day?

  • Capra C.

I really like (no probably should say love) Peet's Coffee, but this location drives me NUTS. I have gone to lis location off and on for a couple of years. It seem that after a month or so I give it another shot, as it is close to were I travel frequently. But each time I am so stressed by the time I leave, I say never again...but then cave-in after a couple months and give it another time. There is No organization here. Three, four or even five employees are behind the counter but it appears all but one is on break (or on strike...) until there are about 8 to 10 in a line, then another one stops walking around and opens up a register. What seems even more odd, is that 10+ can be in a very slow moving line, and some one walks in and goes to the bean counter, and they are instantly served. I have seen this a couple of times, and must admit have considered, when I don't have twenty minutes to wait in line, to actually go to the bean register- to hop the line and order my drinks instantly... It really is very bothersome how there is really no respect for the customers time. Now a few other thoughts. This is the only Peets that I go to that Never has Soy available for the coffee. All others seem to, but never this one. And this is the only Peets that I go to that Always 'forgets' to offer a small coffee when I buy a pound or two to beans. I really think it is a to avoid having to turn around a pour a small cup. The employees here seem to honor me with ere existence and doing there job is beyond an expectation. This is nothing new, and this attitude has been at this location since it opened so in this case I really don;t think it is the Employees issue but the Management, since the employees do change and very in age, but the service is always the poorest of any Peet's I have ever been to, and it Never Changes.. I really write this review for two reasons. One to let you know that the service here is super-sub standard, but more importantly to Try and Get Peets Upper Management to know how really poorly run this location is and Save-It...I love the location, but simply can not spend 30 minutes to order a simple cup of coffee, let alone any specialized drink. It Is So Frustrating! Sorry Peet's I love you as a company, but it Starbucks wins out over this One location! I wish this was at least an Average Peets-But Far, Far From it...

    (1)
  • Heidi B.

One of my favorite locations. The service is always good, they have plenty of indoor & outdoor seating and fresh baked goods to pair with your coffee.

    (4)
  • Dalia R.

I love the staff here. They are friendly and always get my order right. The service is speedy as well. Great place to hang out with friends.

    (5)
  • Archie R.

Let's go over the list of things Archie can get done in 5 minutes or less. - I can get a Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese and large fries - I can have, and complete, full sexual intercourse - I can download a full episode of Mad Men - Open, microwave, and eat a Lean Cuisine Panini - Blow $500 at Banana Republic So explain to me why it takes this Peet's 15 minutes to get me my soy latte? I am a Peet's fan. Always have been. But jeez. When I am one of 3 people waiting for a drink and it STILL takes them that long, we have a problem. The staff here is friendly, but almost freakishly so. I'll probably come back here when the luxury of time is on my side. Which will be... Never.

    (3)
  • JIm Z.

Great espresso drinks, great beans for making your own espresso at home. roast tends to be on the dark side which i like.

    (5)
  • Richard B.

No Patron. No Margaritas, but I must say that coffee does help after too many margaritas, so they get some points for that. But Ugh. Can't these people -- the customers -- get a job? Why is this place always so crowded with people who blather about the crappy public sculptures in Palo Alto, or the way the government is screwing them, or whatever... GO TO WORK. The people behind the counters are usually very friendly. After finishing my coffee, I stupidly asked for ice-water today, not realizing that they had a self-service water right next to where the coffee comes out. The guy at the counter told me to get it myself, but the guy making the coffee was really cool and said, "I'll be happy to get that for you," and pointed out that the self-service water doesn't have ice. So at the very same moment I got crap and great service. So really, the coffee is good, the service is usually really good, but the customers are complete losers... 2 stars.

  • Eugene F.

After eating massive amounts of food at Green Elephant, having a sweet "topper" at Rick's Ice Cream, we decided to do what we had gathered together to do: play Nintendo DS. Imagine four adults playing DS together in a coffee shop in Palo Alto, and pulling eighth grade antics using pictochat and giggling. Thank you Peet's for allowing us to exercise our inner child and not think that we were weirdos.

    (4)
  • Susangela M.

When I think Peets, I think great coffee, friendly staff. Two thumbs down to the cashier here. No smile, drops my change on the counter vs in my hand and just a poor attitude. The barrister seemed cool. Sorry you gotta work with that guy. I won't be back

  • Kat C.

I like Peets although next time - I'd skip this one. Peets Pro's Staff always seems to be friendly regardless of location Yummy Lattes Turn off: Crumbs on seats and tables and floor It looked as if some mommy and me group feed all the their little children and did not bother to clean up. there were crumbs on tables and floor. I have multiple boys and a large hairy dog - trust me if I'm commenting on lack of cleanliness - it's not good. Perhaps they need more staff to keep facility clean I could not tell if you how quick my latte was made because I went over to Piazza's to purchase some goodies to snack on. Left the husband to wait with his newspaper in hand.

    (3)
  • Jenny D.

I like this Peet's, the staff is nice and friendly, and they try very hard to remember you and your name. The line is never long and the staff is always smiling. Always things that make my day start off great.

  • Thomas S.

Vince and Dan, Two exceptional employees. Giants of customer service, smiling, pleasing, friendly and engaging. You guys Rock.

  • Fred T.

I'm not a big coffee drinker but I do drink alot of tea. Peet's has a nice selection of tinned teas as well as some of the best iced tea around. Friendly staff as well. The only drawback is that this store is small and can get very busy with longer than average wait times.

    (4)
  • Angie C.

Part of the weekday 9AM morning rush, I'd have to say that it's about a 40/60 chance that the line will be spiraling like a snail or that the line will be 2-3 people long. The staff are never short of super polite and take care of the store very attentively. Nice people work there. I'd give this Peet's 5 stars, except that sometimes I have to wait a while for my drink so they lose 1 star. But I do love the crowd of locals and their big dogs. That's right, big dogs. No little froufrou dogs here!

    (4)
  • Shooter M.

Not only am I rating this Peet's but I am going to go out on a limb and rate its clientele as well. First problem that I notice is that the lady in front of me in line to order has been chatting it up with the cashier for literally 5 minutes while I stand there and listen to quite possibly the dumbest conversation that I have ever heard. Next, the same lady goes over to get her drink after she's been blowing hot air for so long with the cashier and proceeds to chat it up with the person making the drinks. The worst part is that the guy making drinks is even chattier then she is (hard to imagine, I know) and so its a chat-tastrophe while I wait 15 minutes to get a drink made. This place sucks!!! The manager needs to go out and get an MBA if this is how he thinks a business should be run. Rule #1: make sure employees are working not just wasting everyone's time.

    (1)
  • Deb N.

I was worried it would loose it's neighborhood feel when this went from a independent shop to a chain coffee place but it hasn't. It is still jam packed with locals bringing their dogs to the outiside tables. Has wireless internet. Has my soy chai latte...mmmmm. In the same shopping center as Piazza's and Rick's Ice Cream.

    (3)
  • wane a.

Good place to get your coffee. Even though it can get crowded in the mornings, the line moves quick and you get your drink within 5 minutes of ordering it. Also, there's always parking in the area.

    (4)
  • JaM W.

Dude was super nice. I cannot comment on the cleanliness because I did not sit down and it was far too early in the morning for those things to even cross my conscience.

    (4)
  • Matt S.

Peet's is the best and this is the best Peets! Comfortable, local, friendly.

    (5)
  • Gerry T.

Mmmmm, Peets. Nice crew. Small seating area.

    (4)
  • Vy P.

I love Peets but the service here at this location is super slow. I always have to give myself atleast 15-20 minutes each time I'd go in for my soy latte. Not to mention how my order is always wrong! Apparently I'm not the only one because my coworkers run into the same issue here. Again, LOVE peets but service here isn't exactly the greatest....

  • Dave K.

Why in the world do they keep this place so frigid? I walked in and I got fripples. And I had to study for my Korean final for 2 hours there. I finally succumbed and went outside. I've passed by this place many times while biking, but only went here to study since it was next to Foothill College Middlefield Campus. The place is pretty busy and loud. Most people are on the older side and sometimes have rambunctious kids in tow. The turnover is pretty high. I'd say the average person is in there for 20 minutes, with 7 of that being waiting to order and then get their order. Relaxing and quiet this place is not. But good for a quick coffee fix if you're in the area.

  • Jim C.

Have been a long time Starbucks ice tea fan so decided to try Pete's... should have stayed with Starbucks. The ice tea tasted a bit strange - not sure what they use for tea - it just wasn't as tasty as the Tazo Black Tea that Starbucks uses. But the banana nut cake was much more tasty and moist and you get a much bigger piece than Starbucks. And Pete's has a much wider selection of baked goodies. Bottom line: Ice tea - thumbs down. Banana nut cake and baked good selection - thumbs up.

  • Elaine S.

Contrary to the 'standards' of my generation, I have to admit that I like Peets WAY more than Starbucks! I always order a medium Cafe Freddo with soy. Starbucks does not offer soy, because their frappachinos are pre-mixed, which also means they are not as fresh. And Peets even puts crushed coffee beans in the Freddo, which make it extra delicious! This Peets is probably the most convenient to my house, but apparently it is for many other people, which causes there to be a line at almost any time of the day. The staff is usually friendly and make the drinks quickly. If you buy a bag of coffee beans, you get a free drink or they will give you a 'rain check' for one. Peets is definitely the new Starbucks!

  • Ryan T.

Came here fairly early a few mornings ago to get some wakeup juice and one of those evil-but-oh-so-good sweet cheese pastries. Very polite and professional staff member who took my order and got me the wifi code enabling me to have 2 hours access, albeit I was only there for perhaps 15-20 minutes before jetting off to the office. Fairly small location, and you're battery's not charged up, like many other Peet's stores, not much of any place to plug into. It's a convenient place to go if you need a pick-me-up before or after your trip into Piazza's Fine Foods at the other end of this shopping area. A few parking spots directly in front of the entrance, as some of the Yelper pictures show. I would come here again, but it's not my first choice of venue to study at or chill out at. I suppose with the outdoor seating in front, it might be a fun spot for people watching.

  • Jason G.

as far as chain coffee shops go, i love peet's. i'd even say it's my favorite. but the staff was grumpy and rude, the coffee was WAAAAAAAY too damn hot to drink and i would have been better off drinking the stuff in my hotel room... :(

    (1)
  • Janet H.

I once would have given this store a four-star rating, but there has been some kind of staff shakeup recently, and the best baristas have left. Now, there are a lot of inexperienced, less friendly staff, and the atmosphere is just not the same. The lattes are just not the same, either. I am really as, as this was the favorite meeting place for some of my friends and I, and I had made several new friends here. The staff issues have caused many of us to seek a new local watering hole

It's a Saturday morning, and I'm down in Palo Alto running some errands. A cup of coffee seems like the perfect way to thank myself for being so diligent and not just hanging about the house until noon. But upon entering Peet's, what do I see but at least 30 other guys who look exactly like me, the middle-aged-man armada stopping for sustenance before heading out on our Saturday adventures at such exotic destinations as Lowes, Costco, and Best Buy. It's not that I wasn't expecting a crowd, but staring at 30 clones of yourself gives one pause, the recognition you are acting more than just a little like a member of a herd. Time to pull that Orwell book out of the garage for another look. Oh yes, the review part. This is an extra friendly, down to earth Peet's, with great service, and always top notch coffee and baked goods. Staff are a notch above some of the others I know of. Get there early to get an almond tea biscuit before they're gone, and maybe you'll see me. I'll be the middle-aged guy who looks like he's on his way to run some errands.

    (4)
  • M O.

Would get 5 stars but the service is VERY inconsistent. We usually get items to-go and rate the service - A Team, B Team, etc. We stop on the way to taking the kids to activities and if the C Team or D Team is working we leave and stop somewhere else. Of course we buy the beans for home. After Peet's, it is painful to even walk into a Starbucks.

    (3)
  • Anna R.

Friendly efficient and great espresso. What more do you need? Oh and they've got free wifi.

    (5)
  • David G.

I love this Pete's!!! If you already know Pete's coffee, this is a good one.

    (5)
  • Andrew B.

Don't ask for extra cups if you're buying for a large group, the manager of this location might just have a conniption. The employee who we see all the time was mortified at the manager's behavior and apologized profusely. Great that people still have a customer service mindset, now if we can just promote that attitude instead of bean counters.

    (3)
  • Jason K.

Look, we all know that Peet's and Starbuck's taste different. I like Peet's better. I like the beans they sell, and I especially like their tea. Maybe you do, too. I've been going to this one for a little over a year, and the staff here is great. They have some *really* good baristas. Tip. I've seen the store when it's busy, and everyone is working really hard to keep you caffeinated. So, tip. Oh, and this one has some of the rare teas, so give them a shot if you're tired of the usual fare.

  • Christine L.

This joint is definitely jumping. It has a nice laidback, recycling-loving PA feel. The only downside is that in the morning until about 10 a.m.??? it's sooo crowded. Lines are long. Definitely a place to get coffee when you have time.

    (4)
  • F P.

I like Peets, and the folks here are quite pleasant. Downsides are the long lines and sometimes slow service, as well as the dearth of seating. Otherwise, great! :-)

    (3)
  • The O.

I really like Peet's coffee and this one has a neighborhood feel. The seating is very limited due to the fact of it's popularity. There is often a lines here. But the coffee is up to par and I've found the staff to be very nice. The parking situation is a huge plus.

I was looking for a local starbusks close to my home, but instead, I found Peet's Coffee & Tea. This is a more traditional, secluded coffee shop than starbuscks. They play classical symphonies, have bakeries only, no sandwiches. What attracted me was the chocolate syrup, vanilla bean oil and pepermint juice. They triggered my fantasies of sweets yet less cholesterol. There are only couple carefully selected brands, must be good. The price is reasonable for its suprior qaulity. Also, currently, they have a new type of coffee bean from Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee, and it's organic...interesting. In terms of the customers, majority of the people are from surrounding residential areas, didn't see any students. Very special..:)

Charleston Shopping Center, near Piazza's--This is the worst Peets I have been to. there is always a line and they are always understaffed, the one person behind the counter is cheerful and likes to talk about the different coffees FOREVER, oblivious to the growing line. I have given up and walked out several times. I keep trying though, thinking there can't always be a line and because I have a gift card there to use, alas, I walk out over and over. anyone want my $15 card? i'm sticking with Starbucks!

  • Lis B.

Customer service at this Peet's is out of this world. Everyone is friendly and genuinely pleasant. Drinks are prepared quickly and expertly. There are a few negatives: First, the place is tiny, and there are too few inside seats. Next, there is only one easily-accessible plug (there's actually another, hidden plug, but you have to pull out a bench to get at it), so that is very annoying. Finally, and this has nothing to do with the Peet's itself, but the clientele - lots of big groups come here and take up all the seats and sometimes are very noisy. In short, it's a great place to get a drink and leave, but it's an awful place to stay and work/relax/talk.

    (4)
  • Joel A.

I tried to go here to work but couldn't find any seating. They only have about 8-10 spots among 4-5 tables. I gave it a 2/5 because I feel like cafes should have more seating. It was a fairly average time of day (3pm in the afternoon on a Tuesday - doesn't strike me as peak hours, right?). Anyway, I can't speak for the food and drink at this place - only the space itself.

  • Nancy W.

Six years later, and still the slowest Peet's I've ever experienced, anywhere. On a recent weekday morning, at 7:30, there were two people at the counter taking orders, one barista, and one person washing dishes. The cafe was filled with people -- standing in line to order, or hanging around waiting for the one beleaguered barista to make their drinks. Where is the management?

    (2)
  • Vicky T.

    Nothing special, but consistent.

  • Dapow H.

Worst staff I've ever met at Peets. First they let someone ahead of me stalking around for 10 min. looking for other merchandise to buy while all others were queued in line, then they missed the almond croissant while claiming there was one. Then they kept me waiting for 15 min. just for a any small single shot latte, then finally the latte came... with 1/3 cup only while the rest is just foam. Are you kidding me? And the coffee was SO bad that my stomach cramped right away, just 2 days after my 2-week vacation from Italy with 2 pure shots of Espresso per day and no issues. Peets are really going down, not just coffee Quality but also service!!

  • Jolie T.

This review is way overdue however its about time I love Peets so no argument there, most of the time before I go to a new location I search if there are any peets around and this time I didn't so it was come to a big surprise. I have to admit that this location is not the most attractive location for Peets but they get the job done. I started to work in the neighborhood a while back and start to get some coffee here and they have a great customer service very friendly and make a great coffee but we all know that, what would you expect from peets ? That what they do best. If you don't like your coffee because something is wrong about it you should lets them know and they will make it right, right at the spot and I have done that in the past. As for this location, on my birthday, while I was ordering my coffee I ended up chatting with the person at the register and I manage to mention it was my birthday and I was so exited that morning, the next thing I know is the lady from behind the counter said something to the person at the register then my coffee was on the house. I was surprised about that but right then I realized my commitment to peets means something to them I know one cup of latte is not much but sometimes that all what it takes to have a successful business and show some appreciation to your customer and now each times I pass by this peets I always remember that day and remember how much I adore Peets coffee. Of course Peets coffee is way better than the other chain but again No one can argue taste. I love Peets

Speedy service and delicious coffee. I usually come here in the mornings before work. It's never crowded so I don't usually have to wait in line. Baristas are all very friendly and smiling even at 7 am. Also a wide selection of pastries. My favorites are the almond croissants and the pumpkin bread. I usually order either a medium coffee dark roast no room (or the iced variety light ice) or an iced Americano. I've never had any issues with my coffee order so there's that. Coffee is my life force. And they actually listen when I say no room in my coffee. Cough Starbucks never listens to me cough

This is my favorite Peet's in the Mountain View/Palo Alto area. Its always packed with people so if you're looking for a cafe to come and read your book or write your poetry in with no distractions this isn't going to be the place for you. However, if you're looking for quick, knowledgeable employees who don't bore you with small talk or annoy you by talking to their co-workers and ignoring you then voila you have arrived!

When it comes to blended drinks I do prefer SB, but when I want iced coffee I prefer Peet's! There's something about the flavor in Peet's iced coffee that I really love. I've never had a bad experience in this location. They're pretty fast with my order and the workers are friendly and helpful. The only thing I wish they would do is maybe get a 10 min Peet's only parking space in front of the store for those customers who just wants to buy their drink and leave... or a drive thru would be perfect!!

I normally love Peet's, but this location is pretty disappointing. I've been here over a dozen times as it's pretty close to my house, but I may be driving further to Philz or Starbucks. Some of the staff are great, but some of them obviously don't want to be there, and make life difficult for the other staff, and add to the wait of the customers. For example, I was there a few days ago, it was close to closing time. There were 2 male baristas in the store, and a long line of customers. Since it was 20 minutes to closing time, one of the baristas decided it was time to go clean the bathroom probably so he could leave soon. The other barista protested and said he needed help with the drinks. The first barista acted like he didn't care, muttered out loud that it's almost closing time and people need to start leaving (it was a complaining tone, not a proper announcement) and he's going to do the bathroom. He props open the bathroom door and has his mop etc ready. Well, the bathroom didn't smell so pleasant and this gross odor wafted into the drink pickup area, because the store is so small. Again, the second barista asked for his help with drinks, so he relents from cleaning the bathroom and helps with the drinks. I noticed how he didn't wash his hands before working on my drink. I was grossed out but hoped for the best... since I had waited TWENTY minutes for this javiva drink. I had asked for light and it tasted pretty sugary, maybe I got the regular version, who knows. All I know is that the staff are unhappy and they don't care about me or my drink being made right.

I have recently started working in Palo Alto and the first thing I do is look for a coffee place. Peets, 3 minutes away from work? That's pretty awesome. If i have time I'd come here every morning before work. The line always looks pretty long but it doesn't matter because they have multiple cashiers open and gets through people's orders really quick. The baurtistas are always in a good mood. Today, I ordered a caramel macchiato and they made it with foam. I LOVE FOAM!! I should have known that I could ask for foam but I just loved that I didn't have to.

I think Peet's coffee is better than the other national chains, but sometimes it isn't just about the coffee. Sometimes it is about coffee and the company you are with. Sometimes it is about the coffee and wifi. Well I went to Pete's to have a cup of coffee and to get some work done online but they didn't tell me the wifi was down. There wasn't any sign indicating the wifi is down. I just think they should let customers know when the wifi is down because sometimes, it isn't just about the coffee.

I love this Peet's. All the workers are super friendly, and make wonderful lattes :) Sometimes it is a little busy in the mornings, so don't expect to be in and out, but I'd take long lines if it means friendly staff and good coffee any day.

The best coffee in my neighborhood. The latte is strong and delicious, the service is great. I usually prefer Peet's coffee over Other coffee chains. this location is my favorite.

I am literally in love with Peet's coffee! I cannot imagine her not being a part of my daily life. I give her loads of my money and there never seems to be enough of her around. Ha...yes I'm talking about coffee and not my love life. Peet's does not over-roast their primo beans unlike a particular gargantuan coffee franchise. Their beans have a rich, bold flavor that is as aromatic as it is creamy. Traditionally they have had only a dark roast coffee but recently they began offering a medium roast for those that cannot handle the bold flavor of their dark roast. I frequent a few different locations regularly and they consistently remember my name and my drink of choice. Superb product and warm personable service? Sign me up for a lifetime of commitment. I'm still talking about coffee.

The lattes at this location are always on point and terrific, but I'm giving 4 stars for the customer service. I do have to say the baristas are great and always friendly, but the older man who appears to be the manager, is always bitter and unfriendly and appears he does not want to be there. Customers notice these things.... Just sayin'... But great job baristas, especially Mitch, keep up the good work!

Awesome place to come to do some work at...shady parking, nice ambience, and excellent customer service. Seriously the staff here, in particular Christina, are the best Peet's employees I've ever met. They are courteous and exhibit genuine kindness. The coffee and food is equally delicious. The awesome staff at this Peets location inspires me to come here for my daily brew.

The three employees there this morning (Thursday, October 2, around 10am) deserve a standing ovation! They were short staffed, ran out of vanilla syrup, and the line was out the door. This could have been disastrous but they handled themselves so gracefully that I barely noticed. Of course (of course!) this also happened to be a morning I wanted to treat my coworkers to coffee so I ordered four drinks, adding to what could have been mayhem behind the counter. But no, both the cashiers and the barista kept smiles on their faces, engaged kindly with the patiently waiting customers and got all of my drink orders right! Such rock stars this morning, just thought they deserved a shout out! I'll be going back for my coffee run tomorrow. Might even get a vanilla drink to celebrate!

First, let me say that I'm a starbucks fan, but this Peets is near where I have to be a few nights a week while waiting to pick up my kids from their activities. So, it's a good place to come to sit, use your laptop, and drink a coffee. They are usually not super crowded in the evenings so you can get a table. Their wifi seems a bit faster than Starbucks, but it's hard to tell. Oh, my only gripe - why do they waste that paper printing out your "special" key for their wifi. I mean, come on, do they really think there's tons of people who sit in the parking lot with their laptops stealing their wifi? I mean if someone wants to do something illegal on their wifi (like download movies, etc.) they could just buy a cookie and get a code anyway. What a waste of effort and paper. Come on Peets, just leave your wifi open.

I was ready to leave Peets completely because of the crappy service (actually no service) I have been getting at the Charleston Location since Peets changed ownership. But today I went to the Peets in San Mateo off Hillsdale by Whole Foods and they were so pleasant, so engaged, so clean! I felt a glimmer of hope since Peets sold out to that company with no notice to shareholders of any kind. One minute I owned $17,000 Shares in Peets Coffee and the next day, none. No warning...maybe they were actually doing me a favor! But what tops it all is that the staff at this Charleston location is just Debbie Downer. The store is a mess. The coffee machines are being wiped up with rags black with grime. And staff needs to ask other staff about anything; they can't make a decision themselves, and the answers the managers give back are made grudgingly. We bought four pounds of Holiday Blend beans this year to share with friends. All my recipients coughed up their dislike of the taste when asked what they thought of it, they were very disappointed. I apologized and took the beans back. Instead of getting the full four pounds refunded or exchanged for something else, the Asian Manager said one of the bags was 4 ounces short, so I should get credit for 60%. Really? It's worth losing a lifelong customer over 4 ounces of beans? I'm just always amazed just how easy great customer service is how food service establishments believe it depends on the tip. I've been in it myself for close to 50 years and it's not rocket science. But without it, a company is doomed and before I went to Hillsdale today, my critical eye voted that Peets was on its "last leg". That's right; I would guess Peets will be sold again and closed at this rate. There are a zillion places to go, Peets! Get that we can get coffee from you but we want the grace and warmth that comes with great retail: Be polite, be authentic, work efficiently, keep the place clean and inviting ....that's it! All that Charleston lacked, Hillsdale had in spades. It was awesome. I took home not only a 1/4 pound of beans to try, a new bean grinder, two drinks and a healthy respect for the future of at least this location in years to come. Loved the guy with the white earrings. He was knowledgeable and high-energy. Perfect for Peets. Wake up, Charleston. Clean up the store. Empty the garbage cans outside during the weekend so it doesn't look like a trash site. And when you look at your customers, try smiling. We are paying you money to pay too much for brown liquid. Keep the counters and coffee machines clean and put some smiles on your faces....it's just coffee for God's Sake!

One of the weaker Peet's I've ever been to in the Bay Area. The espresso shots here are OK, and weaker and more halfhazard than average by most Peet's standards. And like all Peet's, they're overly abundant with the milk-frothing. Ask for a cappuccino, and you get a shot of espresso drowning in a bathtub of steamed milk. But while some do the ingredients well despite the obscene proportions, this Peet's tends to make their coffee drinks relatively flavorless and bland with the texture of dish water. Don't waste your money here, even if it's off of a prepaid gift Peet's card as I have used.

The road not taken. That is how I feel every time I visit Palo Alto. My home for a couple years after college, it is where I very well may have stayed if not for those outrageous housing prices. Since I have family in the area, I come to town a couple times a year, work out of my local office and wonder what could have been... My visit to Peet's felt very natural and they are conveniently located at the intersection of Middlefield and Charleston so it is the great spot to grab a drink on your way to work, school or whatever. When I placed my order, the cashier tried some banter that failed miserably, but was charming nonetheless. The price, the drink preparation, etc. were all typically Peet's.

My drinks are usually perfect, but the reason I am so pleased with this location is that the baristas are extremely tolerant of the children I nanny! I usually bring in the two youngest (girls, 8 and 10) with a friend, and they can be so very indecisive. Even so, I've never gotten any attitude... which is great, because it can probably be irritating having to go back and change the order several times. My girls love the kids white hot chocolate and black bottom cupcakes. If I'm not watching carefully, the 8-year-old WILL sneak away to add lots of white sugar to her white hot chocolate... weirdo.

I have a Peets near home in Redwood City. But this is my work Peets. (Having both is a must). As Peets go, this one is on the small side, and a coffee line of 10 people fills up much of the available space. They make up for it with good parking, fast service, and a few outside seating options. Also, unlike some other Peets, this one has a pretty good, local neighborhood vibe, with locals greeting their neighbors and friends. About 6 years ago this was a little mom-n-pop coffee spot called Café Sophia, where I was a regular (2 jobs ago). Even though Cafe Sophia closed and re-opened as an Afghan restaurant down the street, one of the staff members stayed on here. It threw me for a loop the first time I saw him here, working in the exact same spot, but for a different business. But soon after I began to enjoy the little window back in time. We still say hi in the morning, just like we used to years ago.

Calvin exemplifies the meaning of true service in this world of "whatdoyouwant?....Andyouwantitfast EH?"kind of Calif. living. Peets is a true coffee delight. I came in late on a fri. nite to get a part for a borrowed caffe press and he went beyond everything to help me find what I needed....and they only had 1 of the screens so Calvin MADE IT WORK! I bought a # of Costa Rican and he gave me a rain check for a free cup for later! I am a bold flavored espresso girl and he said " buy what you like" instead of trying another blend...that might not have been rich enough in the French press. We have a built in machine at home. Well, I was the hit of the camping trip when I appeared with PEETS. Clean and organized store. Thanks Calvin
